Our History

Our club started out in 1998 as the 'Roseland Observatory' in preparation for viewing the Cornish eclipse, but in 2005 it moved to Brannel School and became 'Brannel Astronomy'.

In 2011, following the rebuild of Brannel School, the club was offered improved meeting facilities at St Columb Major Academy and so from early 2012 all activities were transferred to St Columb and this prompted the name change to Kernow Astronomers.

The move to St. Columb has provided not only a comfortable and spacious meeting place for our regular meetings, with the possibility of using the school hall for larger events, but also an excellent dark observing site.

The School also offers Kernow Astronomers the chance to introduce science to local schoolchildren and run an annual event for the 'Gifted and Talented' from schools in the area. In addition, star parties are regularly held, both at the school and other locations such as local National Trust properties.
