The eclipse on March 29, 2025, will be a partial solar eclipse. This type of eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth but the Sun, Moon, and Earth are not perfectly lined up. The Moon will block only part of the Sun, causing the Sun to appear like a crescent.

In conjunction with Tretherras School, Newquay, the club and its members will be helping out to allow everyone to safely observe the Sun and the transiting Moon throughout the morning.

Because the Sun is never completely covered, observers must use proper eye protection at all times while watching this eclipse. With that in mind the school will be providing up to 200 eclipse safety glasses for the event. Kernowastronomer club members and the school will also have on hand a number of telescopes adapted to observe the Sun safely in both the visible and h-alpha part of the spectrum.

This is is a public event and is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Kick off at 9:30.
