This remarkable image of the ISS transiting the face of the Sun on 27-07-2024 at 15:24:46 UT. Captured by one of our members, Mark Godwin using his newly acquired ZWO Seestar S50 Smart telescope.

This image is one of those single frames from the video sequence, with a blow up insert providing us with a nice face on image of the station and its solar panels.

While it is possible to get lucky and find the ISS transiting the Solar surface while you are observing, you will stand a much better chance of capturing this moment by using one of the many transit finders available online. Mark used ISS Transit Finder here

The Seestar scope comes with a dedicated filter designed to safely take images of the Sun. As always, never, ever look at or point telescope or camera at the sun unless it is fitted with a proper dedicated solar filter.

If you want to find out more on how to observe the sun safely, why not come along to any of our regular monthly meetings and talk to any of our Solar observers at KA, who will be more than happy to advise you.
